Contemporary art inspired by nature, from realistic detail to abstract expression

ABOUT INDEE MOSS (b. 1981)

Indee Moss is a contemporary American artist whose work is rooted in a unique blend of scientific curiosity and artistic expression. With a background as a scientist, Indee's art is a dedicated exploration of the intricate details of the natural world—the very "why" behind nature's design.

This perspective is evident in her realistic portrayals of animals, florals, and trees. While a camera captures detail as a matter of fact, Indee's art captures it as a form of appreciation. The unique patterns of a tiger's stripes, the delicate veins on a petal, or the weathered texture of a bark are not just visual elements; they are a record of life, a story of an individual.

In contrast, her landscapes, whether abstract or realistic, are a departure from this meticulous detail. They are a space to explore emotion and sensation, capturing the feeling of a place rather than its precise reality. This duality between her detailed, observational work and her loose, expressive landscapes creates a dynamic and cohesive body of work.

Born and raised in Sri Lanka and the U.K., and now based in the U.S., Indee's diverse life experiences have culminated in an artistic practice that invites viewers to slow down, look closely, and find a deeper connection to the quiet beauty and rich complexity that surrounds us.

INDEE’S RESUME

ARTIST'S STATEMENT

My artistic practice is a bridge between scientific observation and artistic expression. With a background in the sciences, I am deeply drawn to the intricate details of the natural world. My realistic work—whether it's an animal's unique markings, the veins on a leaf, or the weathered texture of a bark—is a meticulous form of appreciation, a way of exploring the individual story and history of my subjects. In contrast, my abstract and expressive landscapes offer a space to capture feeling and sensation, creating a dialogue between the analytical and the emotional. Through my art, I invite viewers to pause and look more closely, finding a deeper connection to the quiet beauty and complexity that exists all around us.
