INDEE MOSS

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Indee Moss is an American artist whose realistic portrayals of nature invite viewers into a space of quiet contemplation. Deeply inspired by the intricate beauty of the natural world – from the subtle grace of animals and the expansive tranquility of landscapes to the unassuming elegance of everyday objects – Indee seeks to capture the inherent calm she observes in her subjects. Born in Sri Lanka and raised in both Sri Lanka and the U.K., Indee has called the U.S. home for over half her life, finding a rich source of inspiration in its diverse landscapes and wildlife.

Indee's connection to the natural world blossomed early. Her childhood home, a unique environment filled with a variety of domestic and wild animals, fostered a deep fascination with the living world. Hours spent immersed in wildlife books and nature documentaries like Marty Stouffer’s Wild America further cultivated her appreciation for the beauty and intricacies of flora and fauna. This early immersion continues to resonate in her art, even now as she is surrounded by the prairies and farmlands of the U.S., with the added presence of a nearby bison sanctuary.

While pursuing careers in the sciences and accounting for nearly eighteen years, Indee's passion for art, particularly the depiction of wildlife, flowers, and landscapes through drawing, painting, and photography, remained a constant. Now, embracing her true calling, Indee dedicates herself fully to her artistic practice. As a primarily self-taught artist, she continually refines her skills and techniques through atelier training and workshops with esteemed wildlife and equine artists such as Jill Soukup, Dustin Van Wechel, Kate Jenvey, and Nikki Carr. Through her art, Indee aims to share her deep appreciation for the quiet beauty that surrounds us, offering a moment of peaceful connection with the enduring wonder of the natural world.

ARTIST'S STATEMENT

I am a realistic artist who is deeply inspired by nature – from the intricate details of animals, landscapes, and flora to the quiet beauty of everyday objects that inhabit our spaces. Through careful observation, I strive to capture the inherent calm and tranquility I find in these subjects, inviting viewers to a space of peaceful contemplation. My work carries a subtle echo of remembrance, a connection to the enduring beauty of the subject, while remaining contemporary in my artistic approach and underlying message of appreciation. The gaze of an animal, the vast stretch of a landscape, or the beauty and stillness of a flower or object speak volumes to me. I listen to it, observe it, and attempt to capture it on paper or canvas. That is my inspiration and drive as an artist.
